The 'The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items` error occurs because the `folder is locked` and you may not have `read-write permission`. The operation cannot be completed because some of the required items cannot be found. This is one of the most frustrating errors that occur on screen and keeps the users from deleting needed files or folders.

What is  “The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items”?

I have been suffering from this issue for months and was lazy to just do a simple google search to find the issue. 'The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items`  is an error that happens when items inside the folder are locked. You may see `Pad Lock` blocking you from performing any operations.

Why does “The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items“ happens?

This error mostly occurs when you do not have permission to open an item on Mac.

Following is the error message you get:

`The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items`

How to resolve “The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items” ?

Solution 1:

  • Navigate to the Apple menu and choose restart.
  • Press and hold Command +R keys until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
  • Click on the Disk Utility option before selecting Continue.
  • Choose the disk you want to repair and press the FirstAid button to proceed with the Disk Utility check.
  • Click Run and wait for the Disk utility report. There can be various issues with your device and none of them from.
  • Click on Show details to learn about a particular problem.

ℹ   Sometimes this error can also occur due to some illegal characters in the name of the file or a document @ ! # etc. These are considered illegal names of files.

Solution 2: Change permission

Select the item on your Mac, then pick File > Get Info

Click the arrow next to Sharing & Permissions.

To check the permissions settings, click the pop-up menu next to your username.

Next click the lock to unlock it, then enter your admin id and password

Set the permissions to "Read and Write" or "Read Only."

This will take away your Pad Lock, folder would be unlocked and you have privilege of read and write.

Congratulations!!!!!

Solution 3: Make an alias to the folder

One of the solutions that work is to make an alias for the folder and then delete the files from the alias.

Conclusion:

We saw in this article how we can use a number of resolutions to get rid of permission issues to access items in folders blocked by Pad Lock. I hope you enjoyed this article. Keep exploring. Have a good day.
